The Boulder Oaks Conservation project was a 2-day camping trip, where scouts helped to clean up Boulder Oaks. Scouts cleared up a lot of dead brush that was then able to be used as firewood. This was to help prevent brushfires and wildfires in dry weather (below is a picture of some of the brush that was collected). Scouts were also “Trail angels” as they gave out fruit to Pacific Crest Trail hikers.
Since it was the week of Easter, Scouts had fun making an Easter egg hunt. They wrapped candy in origami paper and hid it around the campground for younger scouts to find. Throughout the campout, the Scouts also had a great time bonding at the nightly campfire. They told scary stories, made and performed fun skits, and talked.
The Scouts also enjoyed yummy food. The picture below is some of the toppings for the pancakes that were made for breakfast. Overall, the Boulder Oaks Campout was a nice way for Scouts to have fun and get to know each other as well as help improve their community.

During this spring break, our 506G scouts were able to go to Montana de Oro for a week long car camping trip. The scouts had fun hiking, kayaking, swimming, and exploring the island. The Scouts saw gorgeous views on their hikes; the picture below is from their hike.
They had the chance to explore some tide pools at Spooners Cove, which is known for their tide pools, caves, and unique rock formations. These tide pools had tiny crabs and other plant life that the Scouts enjoyed seeing.
Scouts also got to learn more about the history of Southern California, Baja California, and Spanish Missions at the Museum of Natural History and the Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa.
One of the Scouts’ favorite parts of the trip was visiting the town Solvang. Solvang is a very special town that showcases a lot of Danish culture and various European bakeries and shops.
Not only did the Scouts get to do fun and unique exploring of Montana de Oro, but they were also able to have time to get sign offs and move towards rank advancements. They also had fun around the campfire and played music.
